What is a NAP audit?

NAP stands for name, address and phone. A NAP audit checks that these details match across the business's website, profiles and directory listings. Keeping them consistent is a widely used local SEO practice, and one reason is that Google says prominence draws on information from across the web.

We treat consistency as groundwork. It makes other local link building work easier to interpret and less likely to confuse a search engine about which business is which. For a multi-location brand, the same checks apply to each branch, which is where a managed audit saves the most time.

What do we check in an audit?

  • Business name variants, such as abbreviations and suffixes
  • Old addresses, suite formats and moved locations
  • Phone numbers, including old tracking numbers still listed
  • Duplicate listings for the same location
  • The details on the client's own website
  • General, local and industry directories where the business appears

The result is a list of mismatches, ordered by how easy they are to fix, with the listing address for each. For larger brands we group the findings by location so the work can be handed out and tracked.

How does clean-up work across many locations?

For a multi-location brand we start with one agreed master record per location. Every listing is compared to it. Fixes are logged one by one so the status of each location is clear.

Some changes need the business owner, for example claiming a listing or confirming it by phone or mail. We list those separately and tell you what each owner has to do. A clean-up can run beside map pack link building for the same locations.

Citations are mostly listings, not editorial links, and many carry little link value on their own. Their use is consistency and discovery. A tidy set of listings does not promise a ranking change, and results depend on the client's site, competition and category.

Buying or exchanging links for ranking purposes can go against Google's spam policies on link schemes. Citation work is lower risk than paid placements, but it is not a shortcut around the rest of local SEO.

Questions about local backlink service in United States

Can the audit cover just one location?

Yes. A single-location audit is a small project. Send the business name, city and website and we reply on WhatsApp with the scope and a written quote, which we explain before you pay. Many agencies use a single-location audit as a pilot before adding other accounts.

Do you remove duplicate listings?

We find them and log them. Some can be merged or removed by request, while others need the owner to verify. Your report shows which are done and which are waiting for the business. Duplicates are worth tidying because they can split reviews and details across more than one record.

Do you need access to our accounts?

Usually not for the audit itself, which compares public listings to the master record. Fixes on claimed listings may need the owner to act or to grant access. We tell you which before anything starts, so nobody is surprised halfway through. Passwords are never needed to run the audit.

What if the business has moved or changed its name?

That is a common cause of mismatches. Tell us the old details as well as the current ones. We search for both and list every place the old version still appears. A move is also a good moment to check that the website, the profile and the main directories all show the same version.

Is this the same as link building?

No. Citations are consistency work. Link building aims to earn placements on relevant local sites. The two often run together for local clients, and we scope them separately so you can see what each covers. If you only need one of them, you only pay for that one, once the quote is agreed.
